What would you do with the current grounds?

If in some magical way you gained ownership of the Old Idora Grounds... What would you do with them?

I would probably make it into a publick park area much like cascade. I would put little memorial signs all over the place to signify each missing attraction...

At least it would bring life back to the grounds!

What would you do?

I think all defunct parks need to have a purpose... even if it IS condos. Put something there...

I love how Cascade was redone into a community park though. We need more things like that...

I would cut the grass and then maybe build a city of dog.:D hehe. Or maybe I would sit on the property while waiting to build my city of dog and collect the royalties from the gas wells and just get rich. Honestly I like the park idea or maybe a small amusement center with an ice cream stand and putt-putt golf, go-karts, batting cages....You know something like Reiley's fun spot.

I agree with mike! A fun center sort of thing. I would 1st cut grass, kill weeds, and remove overgrowth. I would then see what I could salvage of the putt putt course. I know that some is still there. Then I would wait for royalties and start rebuild of hooterville highway since track path is still in existance. Then things like the picnic pavilion, batting cages, arcade, etc... I Would also make some historical commermorating signs around the grounds.

    Hello

Hello all...it's been awhile. Have been busier than can imagine and at the same time have had some life changing events over the last several months. I appologize for dropping off the face of the earth and losing touch with you guy's after the tailgate. Had a pretty good attitude following that towards Matt, which he did not deserve. My appologies to Matt and the rest of you "Regulars". I hope I am still welcome. If not, let me know, With respect, I will be waiting in the wings. Joe P.

        Grounds

I know you guys have heard me say it over and over in the past, however, I think it will be more true than ever right now. The economy in Youngstown and the surrounding areas has taken a MAJOR dip in comparission to years past. ANY one that is in a "Profitable" business who can look you in the eye and say things are better than ever, you should never play poker with, cuz they obviously can bluff. The same holds true for the Churchs. People will always go to Church, mostly to pray for everyting under the sun and most importantly better times and more money. Most people will forego putting money in the collection plate in trade for feeding there families and paying the bills. The church is and will continue to feel the squeeze. They will end up behind on there taxes...(I would look after the tax season end in December, and I would almost guarntee that they will be delinquent). When they do, I will be ready to jump. As has been said in the past by all of us. The chances for the rebuild of Idora on the current property is probably not the most "Sound" business decsion that would be made, but I agree something good could be done with the land and all of it's history. Carl Servino has the right idea with his plans with 2 worlds park, and I wish him and his team the best of luck...He has a good piece of land(Grew up camping with my family on the campground on Creed road in Lake Milton) and he seems to have a good jump on the public realease of the idea. I just hope it is able to materialize...it's a big undertaking, requiring HUGE amounts of capital...although, like you folks..I know carl is capable, I just hope it don't fall to the way side do to lack of investors.

Wow! Joe, it's great to hear from you again! Welcome back.

As for the old grounds, all I have in mind is what Matt was thinking about the public park and maybe doing that project in the spring with the new sign and black ribbons.

As for condos.....hahahaha. Yeah right! More like section 8 housing or projects. Come on Jess you said yourself on another board that my hood scared you. You really think a developer would build condos here? That might fly at Chippewa but not here on the Southside. I think we will see a city of god before we see condos. Hopefully someone can get the property when Mt. C loses it again and we can see something positive happen there. I think even a community park with a playground ,b-ball courts, and a baseball field would be great for the "hood". Besides I see kids there everyday playing football, flying kites, and swinging on the main gates.:)

$7400.00 in the rears on taxes....that blows me a way. If I were to go rears on my taxes on my dealerships, they would have a tax sale the next dam day. Lord help them if they ever have a tax sale on that property......It will be all over....

          Research

I wonder how much in delinquent taxes it took for them to loose the property in 1989. Is it possible to visit the courthouse and request that info? Maybe that's public knowledge as well since we can find out the current taxes by just visitng the web site.

Joe made baby wildcat quick... Rach still holds the record for Jackrabbit rider in 3 days... Geeze

          Jason,

I am sure that info is public knowledge, but I would have no idea who or where to ask in the corthouse...

I would imagine they are about to be charged taxes again soon, putting them even furthur behind.

what I would do with the grounds

the church's original Idea would of been a good thing, but I would of really liked to have seen a Idora park museum there . Maybe in the Ballroom when it was still there.

If ownership of the property is transferred, I'm sure many people would come foward to all pitch in and clean up the site and renew a piece of the city. :D

What else but bring some life back in to Y-town by putting in another amusement park or at least a recreation of the ballroom so people would have some place to go.

            Survey crews at Idora today.

Came home today from doing some running and noticed some people at the old grounds in bright orange jackets. Upon further inspection it appears they were surveying for one reason or another. My guess would be either the church is about to lose the property again or they may be getting ready to build "The City of God" although that doesn't make alot of sense with them being so far behind on their taxes.

I wish we knew someone who worked downtown and had some info... what areas were the orange jackets looking at... and were they actually surveying?

They were in the field between the entrance and the baseball diamond. Yeah, they were actually surveying. I did a drive by after the last post and noticed an orange marker flag in the field and one on McFarland. I wonder if they might be reconnecting Billingsgate and McFarland? The flag in the field lined up with where the two roads would connect.
